Weekend & Gym

Last weekend was an extremely important period in our campaign in fighting against the  body fat.  Especially now when I just spent 2 days in seminar, eating more and more in every moment. In addition, Pete is suffering some kind of post-traumatic stress due to certain hard times at work. That has brought couple of extra pounds to his waist also. However, Pete called me on Friday evening and we decided to do some workout next morning.

Pete and Kettlebell closer than ever

On Saturday morning, Pete sent several SMS to me and suggested that we'd go a little bit later than agreed. Finally, we entered the gym and had privileged to do workout all by ourselves. Pete asked which day routine I had, but I told that I lost my routine paper long time ago. So Pete did some stomach and chest routines, while I did chin-ups and kettlebell, which is red flag for Pete, by the way.

Brooks Trance - fit way better than Asics and the rest
On Sunday, after serious eating in the previous evening's party, our mutual self-reproach was so enormous that we needed extra hard workout. Pete was focusing on his legs while I did some dumbbell lateral raise. However, I felt some pain in my shoulder blade area and asked Pete to perform hard karate strike to my back. That helped, but I felt that I need treadmill now. Six weeks ago I did a very good bargain, when I found my favourite running shoe model at the clearance sale. I have had five pairs of Brooks Trance's and before that two or three pairs Brooks Adrenaline's. Those Trances are really my favourite shoes. I could wear them for marathon immediately after opening the box.

It's gettin' worse

Today I went to the gym all by myself, because Pete went to up north to meditate and Timpa was hiding behind his motorcycle. I did my third routine a.k.a. biceps and chest. I did my first bench press series with 25 kilos (55 lbs) dumbbells, but then facing the fact that those were too much for me today. Biceps curls at Scott bench went better and I put 30 kilos (66 lbs) to the bar. After the routine, I ran about 6.5 km (4 ml). Perhaps I slept a little bit restless and felt rather tired during the workout. Nevertheless, I was so happy that I was able to run, without running the routine just doesn't feel powerful enough.

When I watch my stomach I can tell the muscles are there, somewhere. However, something big has to happen also with my food-related activity. There are too much stuff between the skin and the six-pack. But what you can do with all the ice cream and other summer goodies?

Our personal trainer, Johanna just sent a new workout routine for me. Instead of my previous 3-day routine, the new one has four routines. The bicep part on the 4th day looks horrible. Four hard and heavy sequential series for biceps only. Outch, but then again, that's what I asked for.

Everybody loves dumbbells
(Rautahumppa goes in English)

Now is the time to write something to our international readers. Since our multilingual abilities might be a little bit rusty at the moment, we are terribly sorry for this inconvenience, especially if you are our English teacher or native English-speaker.

So, there are two ex-musicians behind this blog. Some time ago we, Pete and Miksu, tried to do some workout without any clear vision. Then we got personal workout routines, made by real pro, personal trainer and our mentor Johanna. I really can't express what our goals for training are. Maybe some streamlined, swimmer-type-of body, more strength, better posture, you name it. But now, after 2 weeks of hard training, I have noticed that the main goal could be to have a good time together and enjoying the colorful atmosphere of the gym.

Writing in English, by the way, is quite a challenging, mostly because the very different gym terminology in Finnish language. For instance, running mat and hand weight (that we use) are straight translations for tread mill and dumbbell. There are no way to guess those terms, you just have to know.

About our blog terminology, rauta means iron and humppa is traditional Finnish dance (like fast foxtrot), music that Pete and I are always really keen on.
